Managing perceptions.

Western media and politicians are indifferent to reality: they have never lived there.

In the article entitled ‘The Penultimatum’, I wrote half-jokingly that Russia should send the duo Vovan and Lexus to Istanbul to negotiate with Zelensky. It would be a negotiation between fellow comedians. The pair would agree to all of the Ukrainian's demands, signing Russia's surrender while their country's army continued to advance on the ground as if there were no tomorrow.

Later, reflecting on this, the idea did not seem so crazy to me, considering the precedents: as a general rule, the ‘Collective West’ has never fulfilled anything it signed so, perhaps, the time has come to give it a taste of its medicine. But there was yet another aspect that made me think that such an absurd solution could respond to the anxieties of Western leaders.

It's like this: as a general rule, all that matters this side where the sun sets is control of the narrative. For some years now, the sham leaders we have have cared almost nothing about what it IS and everything about what APPEARS to be. If Russia were to admit defeat, even while behaving on the ground as a winner, the Western media would exult over a handful of Russian signatures on a surreal and useless document.

For some time now I have been writing a book about a mental hospital that is a little different from the others. In this hospice, the philosophy followed is ‘never contradict the patient; If he thinks he is Napoleon, he should be treated as such. If she believes she is Lady Gaga, you have to give her a stage. The entire space of this asylum, from the rooms to the gardens, are places where reality has been declared null.

Meanwhile, the guests are being robbed of their fortunes, of course. Because yes, they are wealthy people and doing whatever they want has a very high price. Once their entire fortune is sucked into the institution, patients are disposed of in a variety of ways that can range from abandonment to murder.

Of course, Russia cannot act as I have jokingly suggested, because even taking into account that it has been deceived several times by its enemies, it still has its credibility to defend with the Global South, which is currently the focus of its efforts to build a multi-polar world.

But that doesn’t mean that the leaders of the collective West won’t continue to be primarily concerned with narrative, and that will be the case even without the charade of a deal not to deliver. Even when it becomes even more evident than it is today that all the (Ukrainian) blood and (Western) treasure invested in Ukraine did not prevent the Russian victory, no leader will say that it was a wrong bet.

So, the ‘ideas’ to justify what has no possible justification are already there, they just haven't been hammered out exhaustively to convince their populations. They will say many, many times what they are already suggesting:

1- Ukraine's sacrifice saved Europe because Putin was left without the strength to attack other countries. (the new neocom version of 'we fought them there so we wouldn't have to fight them here).

2- While Ukraine was fighting, Europe was rearming, so we gained time.

3- We remain united and now we are ready for any possible new Russian offensive.

And it will matter little that Russia never had any intention of invading Europe, that rearmament was a predictable fiasco or that the gaps between the various countries of the European Union have worsened because of this war. They no longer care about reality, all they know how to do is try to manage perceptions.

Gerindo percepções.

Os media e políticos ocidentais são indiferentes à realidade: eles nunca viveram lá.

No artigo titulado O Penultimato, escrevi meio a brincar que a Rússia devia enviar a dupla Vovan e Lexus a Istambul para negociar com Zelensky. Seria uma negociação entre colegas comediantes. A dupla concordaria com todas as exigências do ucraniano, assinaria a rendição da Rússia enquanto o exército de seu país continuava a avançar no terreno como se não houvesse amanhã.

Mais tarde, reflectindo dobre isso a ideia não me pareceu tão disparatada assim, considerando os precedentes: regra geral o ‘Ocidente Colectivo’ nunca cumpriu nada do que assinou, talvez tenha chegado a altura de lhe dar a provar um pouco do seu remédio. Mas houve ainda outro aspecto que me fez pensar que tal solução absurda poderia responder às angústias dos líderes ocidentais.

Trata-se do seguinte: regra geral, tudo o que importa deste lado onde o sol se põe é o controlo da narrativa. De há alguns anos a esta parte, o arremedo de líderes que temos preocupa-se quase nada com o que é e tudo com o que parece. Se a Rússia admitisse a derrota, mesmo comportando-se no terreno como vencedora, os media ocidentais exultariam com um punhado de assinaturas russas num documento surreal e inútil.

Há algum tempo ando a escrever um livro sobre um manicómio um pouco diferente dos outros. Nesse hospício, a filosofia seguida é ‘nunca contrariar o paciente; se ele se julga Napoleão, ele deve ser tratado como tal. Se ela acredita ser Lady Gaga, há que dar-lhe um palco. Todo o espaço desse manicómio, desde os quartos até aos jardins, são lugares onde a realidade foi decretada como nula.

Entretanto, os hóspedes vão sendo espoliados de suas fortunas, é claro. Porque sim, tratam-se de pessoas com posses e fazer-lhes todas as vontades tem um preço muito alto. Assim que toda a sua fortuna é sugada pela instituição, os pacientes são descartados de formas variadas que podem ir do abandono ao assassinato.

Claro que a Rússia não pode actuar como brincando sugeri, porque mesmo tendo em conta que foi várias vezes enganada pelos seus inimigos, ainda tem sua credibilidade a defender junto do Sul Global, que é neste momento o foco de seus esforços para a construção de um mundo multi-polar.

Mas isso não significa que os líderes do Ocidente colectivo não continuem a preocupar-se sobretudo com a narrativa e isso será feito mesmo sem a farsa de um acordo para não cumprir. Mesmo quando for ainda mais evidente do que é hoje que todo o sangue (ucraniano) e tesouro ( ocidental) investido na Ucrânia não impediu a vitória Russa, nenhum líder dirá que foi uma aposta errada.

Os s para justificarem o que não tem justificação possível de resto já andam aí, só não foram ainda martelados exaustivamente para convencer suas populações. Eles dirão o que já vão sugerindo:

1- O sacrifício da Ucrânia salvou a Europa pois Putin ficou sem forças para atacar outros países. (a nova versão neocom de ‘’combatêmos-los lá para não termos de os combater aqui’

2- Enquanto a Ucrânia lutava, a Europa rearmava-se, portanto ganhámos tempo.

3- Permanecemos unidos e estamos prontos para qualquer eventual nova ofensiva russa.

E pouco importará que a Rússia nunca tenha tipo intenção de invadir a Europa, que o rearmamento tenha sido o previsível fiasco ou que as brechas entre os diversos países da União Europeia se tenham agravado por causa dessa guerra. Eles não se ocupam mais da realidade tudo o que sabem fazer é tentar gerir as percepções.
