Israeli cabinet: We'll retaliate, of course

Biden administration: OK, but please do it in a cuddly way.

In a meeting that ended about three hours ago, the current Israeli government assumed that it had decided to attack Iran on its own territory. 

They didn't disclose the targets, of course, although they promised the Biden administration that the response would be such as not to trigger an all-out war.

Well, their promises are worth what they are worth, in other words, absolutely nothing. The question here, then, is whether confidence in impunity is superior or inferior to the fear of counter-counter-counter-counter- retaliation. 

I recognise that it's difficult to joke about this, but there are reports that the US has already asked Iran not to counter-counter-counter-counter retaliate. If Iran were to promise such a thing - it is said - then it would be a cuddly attack. 

Perhaps Iran should signpost the places where it doesn't mind being bombed? possibly even paint the target circles (like a game of darts) with scores: if they hit here, 200 points, if they hit there, 300 points, if it's off target they have to pay for the wall to be repaired and painted again?

As far as I know, the Iranians laughed at the proposal, which is no longer very original, and replied: even before the Israeli attack is over, we'll send news. 

We're very close - on an oral level only - to Raul Solnado's famous War, a classic of Portuguese humour about war, in which there was only one plane in both armies and so the enemy bombed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 'we' bombed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Sunday was a rest day.

Unfortunately, however, there are many aeroplanes, drones and missiles here, and the arrangements are made in different ways. 

What amazes us - still and always - is that the Americans haven't yet realised that war is a serious matter, not a comedy. 

As for the Israelis, I think they know that. But they're counting on the stupidity of the Americans. After all, it wouldn't be the first, second or third time they've been promised war entertainment only for it all to end in tears, not laughter as in Solnado's epic series, but tears. 

In the end, everything will depend on the gringo's ability to learn lessons from the past, which doesn't give us much hope. However, perhaps neither stupidity nor the Universe are infinite. We just don't know that for sure yet, in either case.

Governo Israelita: Vamos retaliar, claro
Administração Biden: ok, mas por favor façam-no de uma maneira fofinha.

Numa reunião que terá terminado há cerca de três horas , o actual governo Israelita assume que decidiu atacar o Irão, no seu próprio território.

Não divulgaram os alvos, obviamente, embora tenham prometido à administração Biden que a resposta seria de molde a não espoletar uma guerra total.

Bom, as promessas deles valem o que valem, ou seja, rigorosamente nada. A questão aqui portanto é só a de saber se a confiança na impunidade é superior ou inferior ao medo da contra-contra-contra-contra retaliação.

Reconheço que é difícil brincar com isto, mas consta por aí que os EUA pediram já ao Irão que não contra-contra-contra-contra retalie. Se o Irão prometesse tal coisa -diz-se - então seria um ataque fofinho.

Talvez o Irão deva sinalizar os locais onde não se importa se ser bombardeado? possivelmente até pintar os círculos do alvo (tipo jogo de dardos) com as pontuações: se acertarem aqui, 200 pontos, se acertarem ali, 300 pontos, se for fora do alvo têm de pagar o conserto e a pintura da parede.

Pelo que sei, os iranianos riram-se da proposta, que já não é muito original e disseram: ainda antes do ataque israelita estar terminado, mandaremos notícias.

Estamos muito próximos - ao nível oral apenas - da famosa Guerra de Raul Solnado, um clássico do humor português sobre a guerra, em que só havia uma avião nos dois exércitos e portanto o inimigo bombardeava às 2ªs, 4ªs e 6ªs e ‘nós’ bombardeávamos às 3ªs, 5ªs e sábados. Domingo era dia de descanso.

Infelizmente porém, aqui há muitos aviões e os arranjos são feitos de maneiras diferentes.

O que nos espanta -ainda e sempre - é que os americanos ainda não tenham percebido que a Guerra é um assunto sério, não uma comédia.

Quanto aos israelitas, acho que eles sabem disso. Mas contam com a estupidez dos americanos. Afinal, não seria a primeira, nem a segunda, nem a terceira vez em que lhes prometeram diversão guerreira para tudo acabar em lágrimas, não de riso como na épica série de Solnado, mas de lágrimas.

No fim, tudo dependerá na capacidade gringa de aprender lições do passado, o que não nos dá muita esperança. No entanto, no entanto, talvez nem a estupidez nem o Universo sejam infinitos. Só ainda não temos a certeza disso, em nenhum dos casos.
